All eyes on Asia: GlobeCast Provides Key Sport Event Broadcasts

GlobeCast delivers IPL Twenty20 Cricket, Beijing Games and Singapore Formula 1 Night Race LIVE to television audiences around the world

Singapore, 22 May 2008 – GlobeCast is managing contribution and delivery of three major sport events in Asia, with the launch of the IPL Twenty20 cricket league, followed by the Beijing Summer Games and Singapore’s first F1 Night Race.

Twenty20 Cricket GlobeCast has been selected as the content delivery partner for Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20, bringing matches via its satellite and latest-generation fibre network to audiences in Asia, Europe, Australia, South Africa and USA. The deal comprises coverage of 59 matches spread over 44 days, from 18 April to 1 June.

GlobeCast is providing all signal distribution from the event venues, including delivery of the world feed for World Sport Group via the Asiasat 2 satellite and onward delivery via fibre link to London. GlobeCast is also coordinating the equipment, satellite capacity and staffing to make this worldwide distribution a success.

Beijing Games In August, for the Beijing Games, GlobeCast will provide both SD and HD-ready satellite services and multiple uplinks for Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs). This includes the world feed for Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)’s sport pool, which comprises Asian terrestrial broadcasters and cable operators, multiple unilateral feeds for ATV-Hong Kong, I-Cable-Hong Kong, Solar Entertainment-Philippines, as well as TV Globo-Brazil and ESPN-USA.

GlobeCast will also offer live standup positions, playout and other facilities in Beijing to non Rights-Holding Broadcasters (non-RHBs) and news agencies worldwide.

Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix (Night Race) A month later in September, all eyes will be on Singapore when the Formula 1 Grand Prix arrives on its shores. GlobeCast will be providing HD-ready flyaways and mobile MCRs, as well as on-site production and distribution services to allow international broadcasters to cover this historic night race in its entirety for audiences worldwide.

GlobeCast has a strong presence in Asia. These key sporting events will be supported by the company’s regional headquarters in Singapore as well as liaison offices and technical operations centres in China, Korea and India. In addition, on-site dedicated project crews will oversee the management and broadcast of the events, tapping into GlobeCast’s worldwide satellite and fibre network.

GlobeCast will be present at CommunicAsia, 17-20th June in Hall 6 @ Booth 6H2-01
