GlobeCast delivers first worldwide 3D fashion show from London during Fashion Week

GlobeCast and Nineteen Fifteen broadcast Burberry’s catwalk show in 3D HD to four global fashion hubs on February 23

London, 25 February 2010 – On Tuesday 23 February, GlobeCast and production company Nineteen Fifteen successfully delivered British fashion label Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2010/11 womenswear show live to parties in Paris, New York, Tokyo and Dubai during London Fashion Week. This was the first time a fashion event was broadcast live in 3D around the globe.

The audiences, with the help of 3D glasses, experienced the show in astounding high-definition, allowing them to appreciate the details of the textures and layers used on the runway as if they were in the front row.

To achieve this production, GlobeCast uplinked the 3D feed to Eutelsat’s W2A satellite from its HD SNG located at the Chelsea College of Art, where the Burberry show took place. For the broadcasts in New York, Paris and Dubai, a GlobeCast truck at each location downlinked the feed and decoded it for projection, ensuring that the image layers and audio were perfectly synchronized.

The feed was also distributed to the NSS6 platform by Satlink, GlobeCast’s Israeli partner for reception in Tokyo.

Over the past year, GlobeCast has delivered a number of international events in HD 3D, including the final of the French Tennis Open (Roland Garros) as well as a live opera production of Don Giovanni. This latest milestone event used the latest technology to present Burberry’s Autumn/Winter collection simultaneously across thousands of miles in the highest possible 3D quality.
