Equipment upgrades and strategic partnerships pave way for High Definition content delivery on a larger scale

New York – 23 June 2008 – Content management and delivery company GlobeCast has upgraded its High Definition (HD) infrastructure and formed strategic alliances in the Americas in response to growing demand for the distribution and contribution of HD content between America and the rest of the world.

Building on its HD fiber upgrade in 2007, GlobeCast has completed the next phase of its American HD strategy with the installation of new state-of-the-art encoding and converting equipment at its broadcast center in Culver City, California.

Using gear that includes MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD decoders as well as the Snell & Wilcox Alchemist Ph.CTM HD standards converter with motion compensation, GlobeCast can receive and process HD signals into any international format. GlobeCast can also down convert to Standard Definition (SD) and deliver the signal worldwide using a combination of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD/SD compression.

In addition to providing cost-effective MPEG-4 compression for a more streamlined bandwidth use, GlobeCast now also offers advanced modulation standards such as DVB-S2 to maximize capacity. Interconnection to GlobeCast’s fiber POPs and twelve teleports on five continents ensures seamless delivery of more HD content then ever before.

The next stage of GlobeCast America’s HD investment will be the upgrade of its playout facility in Sunrise, FL to offer HD playout and origination. This latest upgrade will mean that all GlobeCast’s facilities in the U.S.A will be fully HD capable.

GlobeCast has been performing distribution and contribution services for a number of international broadcasters in HD for several years. Current U.S. HD clients include World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Point 360.
