GlobeCast voted in by BBC for UK Election night coverage

London, 1 June 2010 – GlobeCast was elected by the BBC and BBC Scotland to provide Outside Broadcast (OB) facilities, satellite capacity and uplinks at almost 60 locations throughout England and Scotland for their coverage of the 2010 UK General Election.

For the BBC, GlobeCast deployed a massive fleet of 48 trucks, seven OBs and more than 200 staff, including camera crews and engineering managers, throughout the UK for live coverage on the night. GlobeCast also provided the broadcaster with two transponders (72MHz) of satellite capacity on Eurobird 1 and Atlantic Bird 1 over the 24 hour period.

Multi-camera OBs were set up and coordinated at six prime locations, including incumbent Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s constituency of Kirkcaldy in Scotland; the reaction boat with presenter Andrew Neil, moored opposite the London Eye; Abbingdon Green, opposite the houses of parliament and Sunderland, the first seat expected to declare. OBs were also set up outside Buckingham Palace and Downing St where they remained for five days until the new Government was announced.

GlobeCast also provided the BBC with two SNG trucks for coverage along the month-long campaign trail.

For BBC Scotland, GlobeCast deployed a further five trucks to various locations throughout Scotland to cover news from all the key seats as well as to gauge public reaction.

This is the third time the BBC has used GlobeCast for its General Election coverage.
