ION Media Networks Turns to GlobeCast America for Channel Origination and Playout ServicesAmerican television group ION Media Networks has turned to content management and delivery company GlobeCast for full origination and master control for two of its channels. The solution includes playout and fiber backhaul from GlobeCast’s Sunrise Broadcast Center in Florida. ION Media operates the largest broadcast television station group in the US. GlobeCast is a full subsidiary of France Telecom, and recently inaugurated its Sunrise Broadcast Center north of Miami, which is co-located with HBO Latin America. GlobeCast receives ION’s Network feed at the Sunrise Broadcast Center, and regionalizes the channels, including ad insertion and graphic overlay. The tailored channels are then sent via fibre to ION’s digital transmitters in West Palm Beach and Miami, Florida for distribution to millions of homes in the greater Miami/Palm Beach area. GlobeCast is a well-known player on a global level for content distribution services, delivering major broadcasters such as France 24 and BBC Global Channels. The company is increasing its content management activities, and recently began offering playout and origination facilities from both London and Sunrise, allowing broadcasters to central cast multiple channels from either location. These facilities are interconnected with the GlobeCast’s network of teleports, as well as with points-of-presence on its recently-upgraded DTM fiber network. ION Media Networks is the latest of several key broadcast companies turning to GlobeCast for value-added solutions prior to broadcast. |
