MTV joins GlobeCast on Eutelsat’s EUROBIRD™ 9 satellite

New platform provides MTV with key coverage of Europe and leverages benefits of Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD™ neighbourhood.

London, 1 September 2008 – MTV has become the first major broadcaster to benefit from GlobeCast’s recently acquired second transponder on Eutelsat’s EUROBIRD™ 9 satellite after calling on the content management and delivery company to provide distribution and capacity for MTV Portugal.

As a result of its close proximity to Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD™ neighbourhood – which allows programmes from both satellites to be received using a single dish – EUROBIRD™ 9 is set to become one of the most coveted spots in the sky.

GlobeCast receives MTV’s channel feed via fibre at its central London Technical Operations Centre in Gray’s Inn Road. From there the signal is sent via fibre to GlobeCast’s Brookmans Park facility where it is uplinked to the EUROBIRD™ 9 satellite for downlink by Portuguese cable and satellite operators, including TVTel and TV Cabo.

Located at 9° East, EUROBIRD™ 9 provides broadcasters with the opportunity to reach 50 million households across Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa equipped for HOT BIRD™ Direct-to-Home reception. GlobeCast has two dedicated transponders on EUROBIRD™ 9 that facilitate uplink from the UK and France. As a result of its easy dual reception, EUROBIRD™ 9 has a shared community with 1,100 channels on HOT BIRD™ and provides users with immediate access to major cable and DTH operators.
