Simply TV launches multiplatform offering with GlobeCast

Entertainment channel delivered to Sky via GlobeCast’s capacity on Eurobird

London 18 September, 2007 – Digital entertainment company Simply Media has expanded its online entertainment and lifestyle channel Simply TV with the recent launch on Sky’s digital platform using GlobeCast’s technical facilities and capacity on the Eurobird satellite.

The move to a multiplatform offering will allow Sky subscribers throughout the UK and Ireland to view the latest news, tips and interviews from the worlds of beauty, cooking, movies and showbiz on channel 196. Originally launched as an online ‘video on demand’ service, Simply TV showcases all of Simply Media’s specialist channels, including The Baby Channel, BeautyZone TV, Avenue11.com and Simply Entertainment. Tech-savvy viewers are also invited to submit homemade videos to the channel for broadcast consideration.

GlobeCast has created a bespoke solution for Simply TV which includes fibre connectivity from the BT Tower to GlobeCast’s London Technical Operations Centre at Brookman’s Park , where the signals are encrypted and uplinked to the Sky Digital platform on the Eurobird satellite at 28.5°E.

The newest addition to GlobeCast’s platform on Eurobird will join more than 100 video channels and eleven radio channels that GlobeCast hosts on the platform, including major television broadcasters such as Al-Jazeera International, Setanta, Portland TV, ESPN and Horse & Country .
