Last year we talked about the “Seven things you didn’t know about NAB”; this year, we’ve decided to really change things up and go with a new angle. Well, new-ish: 11 reasons to avoid NAB! Think of it as a special offer.

1. It’s crowded!

NAB Vegas Crowd

100,000 visitors from 160 countries; that’s certainly a LOT of attendees. It will be interesting to see this year what visitor numbers they report. And that’s not to mention the 1,700 exhibitors and 792 speakers.

Granted, that does amount to a lot of purchasing power…

2. It’s way too big

Well, where do you think you can put all those people? In a VERY big place. We’re talking about one million net square feet of exhibit space. Preparing for NAB is like preparing for a marathon! Well, nearly. It’s essential that you don’t book a meeting in South Hall followed closely by another in North Hall cause you’re gonna have to dodge through the crowds at very high speed to make it. And you may not look your best upon arrival…

3. It’s buzzwords all around again

No matter where you look there will be buzzwords, from A to Z: AI and Machine Learning to Streaming. OK, that’s from A to S, but you get the idea. Not quite sure yet what the “Z” will be…

4. It’s all about pavilions

Pavilion here, pavilion there, one for AI and cloud, another one dedicated to ATSC 3.0, another for e-sports. Not enough? What about Advanced Advertising or Facebook live?

Globecast will be in  CM|IP pavilion, SU9910

5. It’s noisy

NAB Noisy

Don’t expect any peace and quiet, especially with 700 conference sessions! From the Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology Conference to Business of Media, from Content Strategies to The Influencer Series: Sports & Entertainment, there will always be the buzz of opinions being shared.

6. It can feel like school

There are numerous training sessions at NAB and many of them can be long and detailed. Like this Post production world tracks program including 250+ breakout sessions, with Adobe, Apple, BlackMagic, AR and VR, motion graphics – we could go on. And there’s more! Oh, looks like we are going on! There’ll also be eight field workshops and four hands-on training sessions.

7. It’s not 5G-ready

Can you believe that there’s no 5G at NAB? It’s 4G and WiFi only! But there is a pavilion named Destination 5G with conferences on immersive media and how 5G will revolutionize sports fans experience.

8. It’s about cars

We all use the Monorail. No? Some of us use the Monorail. But this year NAB has put together a pavilion dedicated to the “in-vehicle experience.” With conferences like Broadcast and IP in the Car – How Will These Converge? Or Connected Cars Will Run on Satellite. The car industry is undergoing seismic shifts, as is ours. Maybe we can steer a new course together. Sorry, couldn’t resist a bad pun.

9. It’s for tourists

This year you can take tours! Either a full tour of the show including Future Tech + Innovative New Products, Film and Episodic TV Production Workflow and Live Production and News Production Workflow. Or you can go behind the scenes with Broadcast Beat’s production team and explore the IP production workflow for NAB Show LIVE.

10. It’s day and night

Just when you think you can rest, you’ll probably have to go to an  awards party like the Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards or wake up early on Tuesday to support the 4K 4charity fun run! We’ll cheer you on!

11. It’s Vegas

Last but not least: everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. So how will you be able to “spoil” everybody with all the fun you’ll have had?

Amidst all the ruckus, we hope you’re able to visit Globecast at booth SU9910. We promise to give you at least three good reasons to attend NAB this year: Server-Side Dynamic Ad Insertion, Business Continuity and Telco TV.
